What is Viking Knit?
Viking wire weaving (also called Viking knit or Viking chain knitting) is an ancient craft found at archaeological sites including Birka (ca. 800–900 AD) and in Roman, Greek, and Byzantine civilizations (4th century BC to 1st century AD). These intricate woven chains were made from fine wire using a loop-in-loop technique and were worn as necklaces, earrings, and decorative trim.
